The game was described by its developers as similar in tone and gameplay to *Leisure Suit Larry*, with graphics in a manga style, according to Bonusweb.cz. Flare Media Ltd. promoted the game at an expo using hostesses in pink dresses. The developers originally aimed for a February 2001 release, ideally on Valentine’s Day, but the game went on sale in Britain on March 21, 2001, with international customers able to buy it online. Although Flare Media repeatedly promised Bonusweb.cz a demo, they never sent one; the site could only review the game after a community member who had purchased it provided a copy.
The player controls billionaire Reggie Rich, whose plane crashes on an island. To escape, he needs a boat, but the owner demands $10,000 for it. The owner then offers to lend it for $100 if the player seduces every woman on the island.
Critics heavily panned *Erotica Island*. Four Fat Chicks called it "crap" with "no redeeming value, social or otherwise". Spong described it as a "perverted, poor attempt". Bonusweb.cz criticized the graphics. GameCaptain.de gave it a score of 14 out of 100, and Absolute Games rated it 25%. German magazine PC Games was especially harsh, calling it "shit" and an "idiotic pseudo-adventure" with "atrociously bad" graphics, awarding it one percent. The magazine summarized the game as being about "small dicks and big boobs ... and absolutely nothing at all", adding bluntly that "if you play this game longer than five minutes, it's your own fault."
